plaid on plaid

skirt (bought last year, similar), socks (sold out, similar): Free People;

I'm obsessed with plaid. It's probably the thing I'm most excited about wearing in the fall.  I actually have to stop myself from buying more plaid pieces because I have so many now.  I've mixed plaid with florals before but never with another plaid item, which I've been seeing a lot lately, so I thought I'd try it and I love the combination.  This outfit actually took me minutes to put together because 1) I had the idea of pairing two plaid pieces in the back of my mind lately 2) I've been dying to wear this jacket and yesterday was finally cold enough and 3) this Free People skirt is amazing.  One of the best purchases I made last fall.  And this jacket is probably the best purchase I made this fall.  So naturally they make a great pair.  I also have never done the OTK sock thing and it's going to be my go-to look for the next couple of weeks before it gets too cold.  It's a great alternative when you don't want to start wearing tights just yet.

schoolgirl

Anytime I wear a plaid skirt of any kind, it reminds me of high school.  We had to wear a uniform, which included a green kilt.  I remember there were rules on how short the kilt could be but, of course, all the girls would fold their kilts to make them shorter.  But we wore shorts underneath.  Well, most of us.  I still have my kilt actually and even wore it for Halloween one time.  (No, not as the “slutty schoolgirl”, just a regular schoolgirl.)  I’ve been seeing this Crème de la Crème sweatshirt again in the blogosphere (it’s back in stock!) and seeing it paired with full skirts, which I love.  (I had previously paired it with this plaid Topshop dress - see here.)  Unfortunately, I had to swap out the sweatshirt for a plain black sweater to make it work appropriate.  But it's fun to play dress up.  I might even see if I still fit into my old kilt.

Other plaid skirts I love:

plaid mini

I have been obsessed with plaid this season, particularly skirts.  But I came across so many - in different lengths and colours - that I had a hard time deciding on one.  When I saw this Free People one, it was an easy decision.  I love the pleats and the leather waistband, which make this skirt unique from any others I saw.  Plus, I already bought two red plaid pieces this season (a pair of amazing Paige Denim jeans and a Textile Elizabeth & James sweatshirt).  It was nice to add a black and white plaid item to my closet.
