friday find: velvet love (crossbody)

You are going to see velvet everywhere for fall and I am so happy about it because I love love love velvet.  I want everything, from velvet leggings to velvet jumpsuits to velvet shoes to velvet hats.  I mean it, I want velvet everything.  If you're hesitating about this trend, the best way to ease into it is with an accessory.  I give you this beautiful Rebecca Minkoff Love Crossbody in blue velvet.  It could work for an evening out, work, or casually with jeans and a tee (which would be my preference because then the velvet would pop!).  See my blog post here where I paired a (similar coloured) velvet top with denim.

Sorry, that quote is so good I had to use it twice on my blog ha.  I hope everyone had a great Christmas!  My last (late, sorry) post of 2016 and it's fitting that it ends with velvet.  Not only is this ZARA Velvet Cut-Out Shoulder Sweater perfect for New Year's Eve, it is SO soft and luscious you will want to wear it every day.  It honestly feels like you're wearing a t-shirt (well, almost).  I originally wanted this sweater in green, but they didn't have my size at the time, but I'm happy I ended up going with the navy since navy does look great on brunettes and I feel you can get away with wearing navy more in the daytime.  Either way, just pair it with Levi's and white sneakers and anything is pretty much acceptable for daytime.

You can shop other velvet pieces here and here.

Happy shopping but, most importantly, I hope all of you have a happy new year!

holiday gift guide

holiday gift guide

I can't believe it's almost a week into December!  I just bought my first present (online) yesterday.  I can never get into it before we put our tree up the first weekend of December.  I also overspend if I start too early so I've learned my lesson.  If you're like me and just starting (or finishing) your shopping and maybe need some help, hopefully this guide will help you.

Anthropologie Leather Monogram Pouch, $38.  This pouch is something everyone could use, but has a personal touch to make the gift feel special.

Topshop Blouson Sleeve Sweater $65.  Who doesn't love a cozy sweater?  If you're not quite sure of the person's size, or if returning/exchanging the present might be an issue, a one-size-fits-all poncho/kimono is a great option.  I love the fringe on this Jen's Pirate Booty Shawl Poncho, $202 (far left).  The faux fur collar is removable on this Free People Hot Toddy Cable Knit Kimono, $98 (top right).

Deborah Lippmann Very Berry Nail Polish Set, $36.  A great mix of colours.

Anthropologie Midtown Beanie.  I love the bright colours!  Pink and orange is probably my favourite colour combo.  It comes in other (not-so-bright) colours.

Rebecca Minkoff Velvet Love Cross Body Bag, $275.  On trend, but the shape is classic.  It also comes in burgundy.

Free People Cloud Nine Velvet Blanket, $148.  You can literally drape yourself in velvet.  I might have to gift this to myself for Christmas.

Free People Riri Mega Ring Set, $38.  14 mix-and-match rings!

Free People Bundle Baby Chunky Cowl, $58.  You can never have too many scarves.  Or slippers.

Anthropologie Cabled Slipper Booties, $20.  I wish I had these on this very moment.

J.Crew Corgi Colorblock Cashmere Socks, $98.  OMG cashmere.  Again, in my favourite colour combo + red (another favourite).  I think Santa is going to put these in my stocking.

Happy shopping!

#OOTD / velvet crush

#OOTD / velvet crush

Same, George, same.  There are SO many gorgeous velvet pieces out there, it's hard to choose just one!  I LOVE this Free People Velvet Mini (it comes in 3 other colours).  If you're not quite wanting to drape yourself in velvet like George and I, you can stick to an accessory: a velvet choker (ASOS has many to choose from), a velvet handbag (this Rebecca Minkoff Love Quilted Velvet Crossbody Bag is stunning), or velvet booties (how gorgeous are these Aquazzura Velvet Ankle Boots?  These L.K. Bennett Pellino Floral Booties are also gorgeous and more budget-friendly.)

Check out my other velvet picks here!
