friday find: oversized blazer

Happy Friday!  Today's 'Friday find' is something that I have been seeing everywhere lately - an oversized blazer.  I have never been a blazer wearer myself (I did own a couple from Aritzia when I was working in a law firm), so this post is for those who love a good blazer.  It's obviously a great piece for work, but also looks great paired with a white tee and a pair of jeans.  If I were to purchase a blazer, it'd be this Free People Ashby Blazer, which comes in 3 colours.  I love plaid and the oversized fit.  The best part?  Free People is having a major sale today!!  You can save up to 25% off your entire purchase!

wear to work: Monday to Casual Friday

#OOTD: Monday to Casual Friday

Happy Friday!  I know at this point of the day you're just thinking about the weekend (and possibly a glass of wine), but I put together some outfits to take you from Monday to 'Casual Friday'.  I think everyone should own a great pair of black cropped trousers (GAP, J.Crew and ZARA are my go-tos), a white blouse, a blue shirt, a black blazer, a pair (or two) of flats (or heels, if that's your preference!), a pair (or two) of booties/boots, a sweaterdress (or 10 - you just put them on and go!), a cardigan (or two) for layering (offices are usually chilly), a suede and/or leather skirt and, last but not least, a pair of jeans (I recommend a dark wash) for 'Casual Friday'.

What's great about these items is that you can mix and match them.  So if you're looking to go shopping for fall clothes, I would start by looking at your closet and seeing if you need these items (or if any of them need updating).  And then you build from there.  The key is to add pieces that can work with the rest of your wardrobe, like the Aritzia (vegan) suede skirt, above.  Just swap out the sweaterdress, add one of the shirts shown above and you're good to go!  Once your basics are covered, then you can start adding in some fun items, like these pink J.Crew pants.  You also don't want to buy something that doesn't work with the rest of your wardrobe (I found that out the hard way).

You can shop the items by clicking on the images below!

colourful

{top: Anthropologie (similar here); jeans: GAP; blazer: Joie (love this jacket);
bag: Coach; shoes: Valentino Garavani; bracelet: J.Crew; sunglasses: Prada}

I was talking about how I should wear this blazer more often here.  Well, it was cool last week so I guess my wish was granted in a way.  It seems to be a tradition now that I wear these Valentino flats on Fridays (we're allowed to wear jeans to work on Fridays so I usually start from the bottom up).  I refuse to put on long sleeves in the summer (unless I have nothing else to wear because I hate doing laundry), but I knew I would be cold wearing the tank alone so I reached for my plain light pink blazer, but changed it to this floral Joie blazer for a more matchy-matchy look.  There are tiny freckles of yellow in the jacket, which get picked up by this Coach bag.  (I probably would've carried this bag anyway because I'm usually pretty lazy about switching purses.)  The navy tank is neutral so it toned down the overall colourful look.

pretty pastels

{Talula Keisei Dress, Talula Kent Blazer; pumps: GUESS (other colours here and here);
bracelets: J.Crew; sunglasses: Prada}

I love pastels, especially paired together, so when I saw this pretty blue dress at Aritzia, I knew instantly that I would pair it with this pastel blazer (that I also picked up from Aritzia a year, or two ago) because the dress has spaghetti straps and an open back, which are not appropriate at my work.  But that's why I love this dress so much.  It works for the office by adding a blazer (or sweater) and it's perfect for drinks on a patio after work without the blazer, especially when it's super hot.  And if it gets a bit chilly, you just throw the blazer over your shoulders because it's so lightweight and drapey.  I love this dress so much that I also picked up this polka dot version and knew I could pair it with the same blazer that I also have in black.  I also just realized I have these pumps in black too.  Hey, when you love something that much, why not buy two?
