magic carpet ride

{Free People Magic Carpet Ride Skirt; tee: Wilfred; cardigan: ZARA; hat: Urban Outfitters;
boots: MICHAEL Michael Kors (old); sunglasses: Prada}

I used to mainly buy skirts.  Because I'm petite, I don't like buying pants because I'm too lazy (and cheap in a way - I could use that money to buy more clothes!) to hem them.  I only recently got rid of some skirts that I've had for probably 10 years.  But now they have more cropped pants (which are regular length on me) and also, again because I'm lazy - this happened after having kids, I started buying more dresses: you just throw them on and go!  But when I went shopping the other day, I was thinking I wanted to buy a skirt.  Something interesting.  Then I came across this amazing Free People skirt, which is basically exactly what I was looking for.  You can wear it so many different ways (I hiked it up a bit here so it was shorter, but will also wear it a bit longer.  I can even hike it high enough (i.e., a tube dress) to make it even shorter than pictured here).  Also, fringe.

monochrome | grey

I love a monochrome look, although I never am one to wear all black.  But grey on grey, white on white... I love, especially for fall/winter.  I've been on the hunt for a while for grey jeans and I found these at GAP and they're super comfortable.  I paired them with this grey tee for now, but I'm looking forward to wearing them with a chunky turtleneck.  I'm stocking up after the winter we had last year.  I just don't want to rush into wearing them quite yet.  I'm trying to hold out until December.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

not-so-basic basics

{skirt (old, love this one), sweater: Wilfred Free; tee: Wilfred; socks: GAP;

I bought a Prada bag recently and blew my fall budget already so I'm trying to be smart with my shopping lately (or actually not shop at all, which will be impossible and will not happen).  I'm also planning to go to Paris in the spring, which has always been a dream of mine and included in that dream is to buy a Chanel bag.  So I'm all about basics lately and these are probably my favourite so it made sense to put them all together.  These pieces will be worn over and over again this fall and winter.  I bought this faux leather skirt years ago and I am still obsessed with it.  This grey tee will go with everything and I'll soon be pairing it with a long-sleeved blouse underneath for extra warmth.  And this sweater.  I am in love with this sweater.  It was more than I would usually pay for a plain, white sweater, but this sweater is anything but plain.  As you can see, the texture of this sweater is beautiful and it is so cozy and soft you just want to live in it, so it definitely was a great investment.
