marled

{sweater: M for Mendocino (love this Madewell one); skirt: Wilfred Free
jacket: Anthropologie (in-store, love this one); boots: MICHAEL Michael Kors (in-store);
necklace: Coach (old); sunglasses: Prada}

Today there was snow on my car that actually had to be removed for me to drive it.  Snow!  Sometimes we don't even get snow for Christmas so it was a bit surprising to see first thing in the morning.  And it was freezing cold.  Needless to say, it was the absolute perfect day to wear this cozy turtleneck sweater I picked up for approximately $40.  Although I love this sweater paired with this military jacket, it was so cold that I had to replace it with a much heavier winter jacket (this picture was taken on the weekend).  It's safe (and sad) to say I'm not wearing this jacket again until March... or even April.  It's officially time to say goodbye, fall (if I haven't yet already).  Our time together was short and I'll miss you.  But it's just that much closer to spring!

Below is a picture I posted on Instagram earlier today to show how pretty this sweater is (it was too cold to step off my front porch without a jacket!).  It's one of those I-can't-believe-it's-only-$40 kind of sweaters!

to infinity and beyond

sunglasses: Prada; boots: Dolce Vita (old, similar)}

Even though it was sunny, it was well below 0 this past weekend so it's a good thing I stocked up on chunky infinity scarves.  I love this one from the GAP because it's bright and I've been wearing too much black lately (in this case, I purposefully wore all black so that the scarf would stand out more).  It's cozy and definitely keeps you warm when the temp dips that low.  I normally, hardly ever actually, wear all black, but in this case I wanted not only the scarf but the leather pockets of this J.Crew sweater to stand out.  I don't mind an all-black outfit when there are details to the outfit that make it interesting and these pockets certainly do that.

winter white

boots: Marc by Marc Jacobs (tallleather versions); sunglasses: Prada; lips: Smashbox 'Fuchsia Flash'}

I love wearing white in the winter.  It's so fresh against all the black that people wear.  This BCBG cable sweater is beautiful.  I love the peplum details on the side, which makes it so unique.  It also feels Christmas-y and, although I hate this season, I love this time of year.  I do love a good snow day, but when the snow has already fallen and the sun is out.  Even though there is no snow yet, I thought it was time to bring out these super cozy and comfy Marc by Marc Jacobs boots.  I bought them last winter (and lived in them), but there are leather and taller suede versions available now.  (I'm obsessed with the black tall suede ones.)  I added this cute Express rhinestudded beret (had never shopped there before - cute accessories!) and added a pink lip for colour.  I was definitely going for an all-around cozy, winter (even though it's not technically winter) look.

pink fuzz

tee: H&M; necklace: Juicy Couture; shoes: BCBGirls; sunglasses: Prada}

I've been obsessed with pink for as long as I can remember.  I was always a girlie-girl (when I had a choice, I think because my mom used to dress me up like a boy when I was a child).  There's not a shade of pink I don't love - from the palest of pinks to the brightest.  So, of course, I couldn't resist this French Connection sweater when I saw it.  I was going to wear this outfit on Saturday night but my plans fell through, so I'm wearing a similar outfit to work, swapping the leatherette leggings for a pair of black dress pants.

(p.s. It was windy while I was taking these pictures, in case you were wondering why my hand is constantly in my hair.)

pop

{sweatshirt: Isabel Marant Pour H&M; GAP 1969 Legging Jeans; hat: J.Crew (similar);
jacket: Anthropologie (in-store, similar) sneaker wedge: Marc by Marc Jacobs; sunglasses: Prada}

Since I found a coat for the winter, I'm now stocking up on toques (or beanies, as some people call them) since last week was freezing.  This weekend was pretty mild, but I find if you wear a toque, you're able to get away with wearing less clothing anyway.  I love this J.Crew one (mine is the non-cashmere version - I bought it in-store) because it's a nice pop of colour against all the black and grey I've been wearing lately.  (Speaking of grey, I missed out on the cardigan I wanted from the Isabel Marant collection for H&M, but needed a sweatshirt and thought this 'smile' one from the kids' collection was cute.)  It's not like me to wear so much of those colours.  And I think I was starting to go through withdrawals last week because I also picked up a neon pink sweater from French Connection, which I am obsessed with.  I feel like myself again!

layers

{GAP Herringbone Fleece Shift Dress; blouse: Madewell (sold out, similar);
hat: BCBG (in-store, love this one); sunglasses: Prada; boots: MICHAEL Michael Kors (in-store)}

It's all about layers these days.  One piece just doesn't cut it.  It's almost 0 degrees and it's even freezing in my office.  I have been trying to get as much use as possible out of my jackets before I freeze to death, so I'm layering my outfits as much as I can before I have to wear a winter coat.  I've even managed to stay away from toques (or beanies) so far.  I thought this BCBG hat was a great transitional piece.  But I almost caved this morning and put on a toque.  I think I just have to face it.  Winter is here.

clueless

cuff: Chanel (vintage); sunglasses: Prada}

Anytime I see a plaid skirt or dress, I immediately think of one of my favourite movies of all time: Clueless.  'As if.'  'Whatever.'  'You're a virgin who can't drive.'  I could watch that movie over and over again and never get sick of it.  That's when I fell in love with Paul Rudd.  He's now one of my favourite actors.  More importantly, that's when I became obsessed with fashion and dreamed of having a closet like Cher's - one where a computer picks out your outfits for you.  I actually bought this plaid Topshop dress awhile ago (see here), but this time decided to play up the schoolgirl look by adding a blouse underneath and a blazer.  Tights are a must because it's almost below 0.  It was actually impossible to take pictures because it was freezing, raining and super windy this weekend.  Hence taking them on my front porch.

I have 'Rollin' with the Homies' stuck in my head.  Now I have to watch that movie this weekend.  Can't Hardly Wait is another favourite.  Great, now I want to watch that movie too.  Guess I know what my weekend is going to consist of.

under the weather

{wool coat: ZARA}

I'm not sure if I got food poisoning from the delicious brunch I posted on Instagram (see right), or if I caught the bug my daughter had, but I've been feeling ill ever since.  So I haven't been up for taking pictures.  But when I do get a chance to take pictures, I'm not sure how that's going to work because it's SO cold already here in Canada.  (Oh, to live in California.  Or Hawaii.)  I don't really feel like wearing anything but sweatshirts and sweatpants and stay by a warm fire, it's already that cold.  But since I have to brave the outdoors, I thought I should invest in a new wool coat.  I really don't think the jackets I bought recently are going to cut it, which is such a shame.  But I hate the cold and I hate to be cold.

I normally stay away from black coats because I find them boring and if you look around, mostly everyone is wearing one, so I usually opt for white (my last 2 coats in a row, at least).  So I was surprised when I went shopping today and came across this Zara one that I could not resist.  The details on the coat make it interesting and it fits so well on my petite frame.  (The price is great too, compared to most wool coats I saw).  Hopefully, pictures will follow shortly.
