friday find: the cardigan of my dreams

 OMG this cardigan.  I love Jen's Pirate Booty so it's no surprise that they've made the cardigan I've been looking for my entire life.  I love the colour, the loose fit, the pattern, the pockets.  It checks off every box for the perfect fall cardigan.  I'm also obsessing over their bomber jacket.

check this skort

Urban Outfitters Fedora;

A quick outfit post (it's been awhile!).  I bought this cute ASOS check skort a few weeks ago and didn't think I'd get a chance to wear it because it suddenly got pretty chilly, but then we went back to 70-degree weather late last week and I was able to wear this skort on the weekend.  I was going to pair it with a black sweater, but it was so warm out I went with a simple black tee and, of course, my go-to Vans.  We went out for ice cream and could not ask for a more perfect evening (especially in November!).

friday find: convertible sweater scarf

Happy Friday!  How cute is this convertible sweater scarf from Free People?  It also comes in navy/red.  Perfect to throw on when you're running out the door for a touch of extra warmth for when you need it in the morning and then wear it as a regular scarf wrapped around your neck when it warms up in the afternoon.  Obsessed.

friday find: soft-sleeved sweater

Happy Friday!  Anthropologie is having a 'Happy Harvest Event' where you can save up to 25% off on fall items!  One of the items I've been eyeing from Anthropologie (& is currently sitting in my shopping cart, along with about 25 other things that I'm trying to narrow down) is this beautiful soft-sleeved sweater by Knitted & Knotted.  I'm a sucker for a cozy sweater and you can't get much cozier than a sweater with fuzzy, soft sleeves.  I always look for unique pieces and this sweater not only has different textures, but also has my favourite feature: a statement sleeve.  Plus, it's ivory and I love my 'winter whites' so this sweater checks of another box.  And this sweater is also under $100 (not including the discount)!  So not only does this sweater check off 1 box, but it checks off 5!

Cozy: check.
Ivory: check.
Textures: check.
Statement sleeve. check.
Budget-friendly: check.

I'm also loving this, this and this sweater, all with statement sleeves.

friday find: checked top

Happy Friday!  There is so much goodness out there for fall, I want everything.  I am currently obsessing over this ZARA checked top.  The embroidery is so beautiful!  Sadly, it's still hot in the South and this top would be too warm to wear here.  Well, I could wear it in the morning because we're starting to have cool mornings, but then I'd have to take it off for the afternoon.  It's a whole thing.  But I can't wait to stock up on all things checked.  ZARA always has great checked pieces.  I also love this embroidered tunic, this oversized checked dress (that probably only a few could pull off, but I'm obsessed), this embroidered checked shirt (the back is stunning!!) and this checked dress with floral embroidery.

friday find: faux fur jacket

Happy Friday!  It has been deathly hot here this week.  Living in Myrtle Beach was so great because you would just cool off at the beach, but now that we live upstate I've been hibernating as if it's winter in Canada.  But I've been keeping busy with Shopbop's 'Event of the Season' (ends today!), where you can save up to 25% off your entire order!!  Even though it's so hot here in the South, I can't help but drool over all of the jackets for fall.  Today's find is this gorgeous MOTHER faux fur jacket.  I love the colour.  I love that it can be worn casually with jeans, as seen here, or thrown on top of a pretty dress and booties.

friday find: floral dress for fall

Happy Friday and happy first day of fall!!  I love fall so much.  The beautiful colours everywhere, the cooler weather (although it's getting hotter in the South) and, of course, fall fashion.  I think most fashion girls will agree that fall fashion is the best fashion.  In the summer you can wear a dress, but that's basically it.  In the fall, you can create so many unique looks by taking that dress and adding layers.  Are you a denim jacket kind of girl, or a leather jacket kind of girl?  My favourite layering piece is an oversized cardigan.  Do you like wearing moto boots that add edge to a feminine floral dress, or prefer slouchy boots for that soft boho look (my preference).  Today's find is this gorgeous Madewell Sézane Daphna Floral Dress, which is the perfect floral dress for fall.  Pair it with sandals to over-the-knee boots as the weather gets cooler and it becomes a different look each time you wear it.  When it gets really cold you can layer a turtleneck underneath and add opaque tights.  The options are endless!

friday find: velvet love (crossbody)

You are going to see velvet everywhere for fall and I am so happy about it because I love love love velvet.  I want everything, from velvet leggings to velvet jumpsuits to velvet shoes to velvet hats.  I mean it, I want velvet everything.  If you're hesitating about this trend, the best way to ease into it is with an accessory.  I give you this beautiful Rebecca Minkoff Love Crossbody in blue velvet.  It could work for an evening out, work, or casually with jeans and a tee (which would be my preference because then the velvet would pop!).  See my blog post here where I paired a (similar coloured) velvet top with denim.

pink gingham

7 For All Mankind Slim Illusion Skinny Jeans (old, similar);
Brixton Dalila Hat (sold out, love this one);

I am obsessing over Petersyn (also here) lately.  I would literally buy every piece, but the pieces are not the most budget-friendly.  (Of course, this top is now on sale!)  As much as I love every piece, this gorgeous top was calling my name: it's pink, off-the-shoulder, gingham and has statement sleeves.  I actually bought this top before we left Myrtle Beach, but it's been too hot to wear it so I've been waiting for cooler weather.  I initially thought of pairing this beautiful pink gingham top with white jeans and gladiator sandals but, since I'm in fall mode, I paired it with dark skinny jeans and booties.

I'm also obsessing over the plaid version for fall!

friday find: collared cardigan

A cardigan is the perfect layering piece when the weather starts to shift.  It's nice enough for the office, but also perfectly cozy for the weekends.  You throw it on when you get chilly and easily slip it off when you get too warm.  I love this Anthropologie Collared Cardigan.  First, I love that it's ivory because I love my 'winter whites'.  I really love the oversized fit and the fuller sleeves, which also have a different texture which makes it more unique.  I love how it's paired with denim on denim here, a style I love.  Because of the oversized fit of this cardigan, it would pair well with a white blouse for work.  (Bonus: a blouse with similar style sleeves won't get squished as they would in a fitted sleeved cardigan.)  Just add a pair of dress pants or a skirt.

I've styled an oversized cardigan many times on the blog.  I paired a similar cardigan with a silk cami and black jeans on the blog here.  I styled an oversized cardigan with a floral dress and over-the-knee boots on the blog here.  I styled an oversized cardigan with a slip dress, over-the-knee socks and booties on the blog here.  And I styled that same cardigan with a tee and midi skirt here.  If I had to choose one must-have item for fall, it would definitely be an oversized cardigan.

Happy layering!

gauzy goodness

{Jen's Pirate Booty Chiapas Top (special order, 7 colours);
Brixton Dalila Hat (sold out, love this one);

Hope everyone had a great long weekend!  I'm still fighting an ear infection and now I have a cold.  But that would never stop me from going out for ice cream!  The weather was perfect so we headed to the park after so that the kids could play and we could enjoy the summer breeze that we rarely get.  I wore this Jen's Pirate Booty Chiapas Top I purchased at Planet Blue in Boca Raton.  I'm obsessed with Jen's Pirate Booty (raved about the brand last September here - NSFW).  I've also been eyeing this one-shoulder style top.  It's just dreamy fabric.  The details are so pretty.  I paired this beautiful top with a pair of One Teaspoon cutoffs that I also purchased at Planet Blue.  I've collected my share of One Teaspoon Bandits, but I had to have these high-waisted Bonitas.  They are super comfortable!  For those that are in fall fashion mode, this top would of course look great with a pair of jeans and booties.

On our trip to Florida a few weeks back, we stopped in Boca Raton on our way to Miami (specifically Planet Blue in Mizner Park, below).  It's one of the cutest places to shop and I can't wait to go back!  I love Florida (as most do) and I'm devastated and praying for those affected (or will be affected) by the hurricane.

UPDATE: I'm selling this Jen's Pirate Booty top, along with other great items from my closet, and I will be donating 10% of my sales to those affected by the hurricanes.  Shop my items on Poshmark here: https://poshmark.com/closet/marikascloset

friday find: the oversized (embroidered) jean jacket

Happy Friday and happy first day of September!  Today's find is this Madewell oversized jean jacket with beautiful embroidery to celebrate the countdown to fall (my favourite season for fashion).  Fall is when you start pulling out those jackets and it's safe to say that everyone loves a jean jacket.  This Madewell one is definitely not your standard denim jacket.  The embroidery on this jacket is stunning and takes a denim-on-denim look to a whole new level.  Don't need a new denim jacket?  You can get the same beautiful embroidery on a pair of high-rise slim boyfriend jeans or a denim shirt.

I've been fighting an ear infection and allergies (puffy eye and cheek), but I'm hoping to be back next week with a new outfit post.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

friday find: pearls

Happy Friday!  I was in Florida this past week visiting Orlando, Palm Beach and Miami!  It was such a great trip, especially Palm Beach, a place I've never been to.  I am already booking our next trip!  I tried taking pictures of my outfits but I was dying in the heat (I don't know how bloggers do it and look so chic and not sweaty ha!) so unfortunately I won't have those to show you, but I will wear those outfits in the near future I'm sure and will post them soon.  Anyway, today's find is something I found while shopping in Disney Springs: these amazing Free People Pearl Crop Straight Leg Jeans.  They are full length on me, but fit great.  I love embellishments on denim.  They make wearing a pair of jeans that much more fun!  Plus, they look fancy but you don't feel fancy (i.e., uncomfortable).  I preferred the fit of these Free People straight-leg jeans, but Anthropologie also makes a similar pair of jeans embellished with pearls in a relaxed boyfriend fit.

friday find: ruffle sleeve

Happy Friday!  Today's find is striped (again), but this time the focus is on the sleeves.  How pretty are these ruffle sleeves?  Not only are they ruffled, but they tie up too!  I've always loved Pixie Market for their unique pieces.  If you have never shopped at Pixie Market, this pretty striped top gives you a great idea on the types of items you'll find on their site.  The best part is that their prices are budget-friendly.  This top is under $100!  You can wear it from work to dinner and then brunch the next day!  (Okay, you might want to wash it first.  And not have brunch with the same people you had dinner with the night before.)  This ruffle sleeve top would look great with these Madewell 9" High-Rise Skinny Jeans in Pure White for summer and then come fall, pair it with these FRAME high-waisted flare jeans, or with your favourite skinny jeans and boots (obsessing over these ZARA Leather High Heel Ankle Boots With Bow).

retro / striped tee

{Free People Need You Printed Tee (comes in 3 colours);
Brixton Dalila Hat (sold out, love this one);

I'm always on the lookout for a tee that's not basic (I have enough black tees), but that I could wear without a bra.  This Free People Need You Printed Tee is certainly not basic.  I love the colourful stripes!  They're in the front and back of this 'easy, relaxed fit' tee.  Last Friday night we went for a stroll downtown Greenville so I paired this tee with my go-to One Teaspoon Junkyard Skirt and white vans (not shown).  I thought of pairing this outfit with my pink Rebecca Minkoff bag, but instead decided to keep my accessories neutral and let the colourful stripes stand out even more.  Also, I'm in fall fashion mode lately now that fall items are starting to appear online and in stores.  This outfit would transition perfectly into fall with a cardigan (I'm obsessing over this Free People Creme Brulee Cardi) and over-the-knee boots (can never go wrong with the Stuart Weitzman The Lowland Boot!  Also love these Vince Camuto Karinda Over The Knee Boots - they're under $250!).

friday find: a little flare

Happy Friday!  Today's Friday find has a little flare.  I keep seeing cropped flare jeans everywhere so it's safe to say they'll be a big trend for fall.  I love these Citizens of Humanity Drew High-Rise Cropped Flare Jeans.  I love how the back hem is higher which makes these flare jeans unique.  They're a great colour too, not too light and not too dark.  I was eyeing these Paige Rafaela Mid-Rise Skinny Cropped Ruffle Petite Jeans since I'm petite, but they've sold out rather quickly.  Only a few sizes left!  Shopbop carries them in regular sizes here.  For a more budget-friendlier pair, these Blank Denim Trumpet Flare Jeans are under $100!

kiss me off-the-shoulder

Prada Minimal Baroque Sunglasses (also here)}

On our shopping trip in Charlotte, NC, a couple of weekends ago, I picked up this pretty pink off-the-shoulder top at Free People.  I was looking for something casual that you can just throw on and go, but not a basic tee (I have enough of those and wore them out in the first few weeks after our move).  This 'Kiss Me Tube' checked off all of the boxes.  But unlike the pink off-the-shoulder top in my last post, this one tends to ride up.  But it's super comfy and flowy, almost like a poncho, perfect for the heat.  I love the raw edges.  We headed out for a casual dinner and walk around downtown Greenville so I paired the off-the-shoulder top with my go-to AGOLDE Parker Vintage Cutoff Shorts (again). (I wasn't joking when I said I have been living in them!)  Not a huge fan of pink?  The Kiss Me Tube also comes in black (which looks more like grey).

off-the-shoulder neon pink

I bought this neon pink Susana Monaco Maia Top months ago from Shopbop (now sold out, but found on other sites, linked above), but with the move and not organizing my closet for weeks I never got around to wearing it.  Of course now it's on sale!  But I'm actually happy about that in a way because I love this top so much that I think I'm going to buy it in red.  This is one of those off-the-shoulder tops that actually stays off the shoulder.  I wore it out for dinner and it never rode up even once.  It's super comfortable too.  I love the cute ties on the sleeves!  It also has a built-in bra, which is a bonus.  But most of all I love it, of course, because it's pink!  This neon pink is not something I see very often (I don't recall the last time neon was trendy, but neon pink is one of my favourite colours so I will scoop it up when I do see it.  I just ordered this tee from Free People!).  I love pairing neon with other neon, especially pink with orange.  I have a pair of orange linen pants that this top would look great with.  Next time!  This time, for a casual dinner on a very hot evening, I paired this top with my favourite AGOLDE Parker Vintage Shorts.  I've been living in them, they're so comfortable.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

friday find

Happy Friday!  Today's find are these beautiful Jacquard mules by Steven.  Mules are still a trend and they're the perfect transition shoe from one season to the next (ok, maybe not winter in most areas).  You can find mules in pretty much every colour, print and price point.  I love these Steven mules because I'm a sucker for anything denim, floral print and they're a steal at $99!

friday find

Happy Friday!  Hope everyone is having a great summer so far!  I've taken some (er, a lot) of time off for the transition of our move to Greenville, SC (a city I had only been to twice before we moved!).  We've been having fun exploring the city.  But I spent most of the time unpacking.  It took two weeks before I even started unpacking and organizing my closet!  So let's just say I wore basically the same thing every day.  It's been fun decorating our new house and I'll be sharing some of my finds on the blog shortly!  I probably did not even look at clothes online for a couple of weeks (anytime I was online I was shopping for the house), but I started getting the fashion bug last week.  So we took a trip to Charlotte, which is only an hour and a half away, which I'm so excited about.  There's a Free People (yay!), Nordstrom (I can shop the Anniversary Sale, which starts today, in person!), Madewell, Neiman Marcus, Urban Outfitters, etc.!

Anyway, I've missed blogging and this 'Friday find' (which is something I'm going to continue going forward) was something I had to blog about.  How cool is this ZARA Multi-Position Shirt?  It's a long-sleeved shirt with buttoned cuffs, which turns into a cool sleeveless shirt with spaghetti straps!  It could also be worn as an off-the-shoulder shirt!  A steal for under $50.

print mixing / stripes & florals

Happy hump day!  Today is my birthday and the day we finally move into our new house in Greenville, SC!!  We've been staying in a hotel for 10 days and are definitely at the point where we can't wait to move in!  In the meantime, we've been enjoying exploring our new city, especially trying out new restaurants (including a donut shop called The Donut Experiment).  We already have a couple of favourite spots, including Adams Bistro.  I packed a bunch of clothes/outfits, but have been basically living in a t-shirt and rotating 4 pairs of shorts.  I've also been living in my Adidas slides (which I paired with this romper before on the blog) since we've been doing a lot of walking.

But before we left Myrtle Beach, I had ordered these amazing ZARA Tied Jute Platform Wedges.  I normally do not find espadrilles comfortable but these are very comfortable.  I love the lace-up straps.  (Tip: I'm normally a 5.5/6 and the 5 fit perfectly.  The size 6 was too big.)  I first styled these wedge sandals with a denim on denim outfit, but then saw this Spell romper hanging and immediately changed my mind.  I love mixing prints.  Because both the floral romper and striped sandals are blue and white, I knew they would be the perfect match.  Keeping prints in the same colour family is the easiest way to mix prints.  Also, the subtle stripes do not compete with the bold floral print.  Stripes are also the safest print to mix with, IMO.

Happy print mixing!

summer sandals

summer sandals

Summer is just around the corner!  As a stay-at-home mom I'm partial to slides since you can just slip them on and go.  I'm obsessed with these Marc Jacobs Daisy Aqua Slides (second from right).  I love the daisy appliqués.  I'm also partial to white sandals.  They're so fresh.  These MICHAEL Michael Kors Sonya Embellished Leather Sandals (bottom, second from left) are also very pretty.  If you prefer a black sandal, these Ancient Greek Clio Pearls Leather Sandals (bottom, second from right) are simple, but the pretty pearl embellishments elevate them.  If you're looking to add some colour, these peach RAYE Sashi Sandals (bottom left) will add a pop to any outfit.
