summer whites

hat: BCBG; shoes: MICHAEL Michael Kors; sunglasses: Prada; lipstick: Smashbox 'Electric Pink'}

My go-to colour for summer is most definitely white.  I bought several items from Free People recently and the majority were white.  I also bought a few tops from GAP and J.Crew and they were all white.  Yesterday I even bought a pair of white Vans.  I love wearing white all year round, but there's just something about wearing white in the summer.  Of course if you have a tan then white looks even better, but for the past several years I try to avoid getting a tan because obviously it's not good for you.  (I have not had any luck with tanning lotions so if anyone has any recommendations, I would love to hear them!)  I've been looking for a pair of high-waisted white cutoffs and these fit great, but this top is what makes the outfit.  It is so beautiful.  I especially love the tassels!

p.s. I hated wearing lipstick until I discovered Smashbox 'Be Legendary' lipsticks.  It does not even feel like you are wearing lipstick and they make the most amazing colours!

ice cream & kimonos

{overalls: Mendocino; tee: Sunday Best via Aritzia; kimono: Free People;
shoes: Guess (old); bracelets: H&M (in-store); sunglasses: Prada}

I never need an excuse to get ice cream, but I heard it was National Ice Cream Day on Sunday so, of course, I had to celebrate.  Sunday was that in-between weather where the sun was shining and felt hot, but there was a breeze so it felt cool in the shade; so I wore these overall shorts to keep cool and this beautiful Free People kimono to keep warm.  This kimono is becoming my go-to piece for those cooler summer nights.  I had picked up this cute little crop top from Aritzia, which if you're like me and not fully comfortable wearing crop tops on their own, wearing them under overalls is a great way to wear them.

{top: Anthropologie (similar here); jeans: GAP; blazer: Joie (love this jacket);
bag: Coach; shoes: Valentino Garavani; bracelet: J.Crew; sunglasses: Prada}

I was talking about how I should wear this blazer more often here.  Well, it was cool last week so I guess my wish was granted in a way.  It seems to be a tradition now that I wear these Valentino flats on Fridays (we're allowed to wear jeans to work on Fridays so I usually start from the bottom up).  I refuse to put on long sleeves in the summer (unless I have nothing else to wear because I hate doing laundry), but I knew I would be cold wearing the tank alone so I reached for my plain light pink blazer, but changed it to this floral Joie blazer for a more matchy-matchy look.  There are tiny freckles of yellow in the jacket, which get picked up by this Coach bag.  (I probably would've carried this bag anyway because I'm usually pretty lazy about switching purses.)  The navy tank is neutral so it toned down the overall colourful look.

bracelets: H&M; hat: BCBG; sunglasses: Prada}
I love hip hop music.  Always have.  When I was around 13, I was obsessed with FU-Schnickens and tried getting every lyric down to "La Schmoove".  I'm pretty sure I thought I would be the first Eminem (you know, before Eminem came out) except I can't actually write rap lyrics, or actually rap.  (And then Eminem came out and I'm pretty sure he's my soul mate.)  At first I was skeptical of Iggy, but her 'Fancy' song got stuck in my head so I checked her out and listened to her song with T.I. and gave her a chance.  I downloaded her album and became obsessed.  So of course I ordered this tee when I saw her feature on  The girl is living my dream.  But if she starts dating Eminem though, it's over.

black, white & red

{blouse: J.Crew; skirt: MinkPink (sold out, love this one); shoes: GUESS;
bag: MICHAEL Michael Kors (similar larger version here); bracelets: H&M; sunglasses: Prada}

It has cooled down over the past couple of days, which gave me a chance to wear this J.Crew blouse I bought a couple of weeks or so ago.  It has a subtle polka dot print and a pretty front tie.  (It will also look great dressed down with a pair of shorts!)  When I wear black and white I always tend to pull out this red MK handbag because black or white would be boring (to me) and any other colour would just not seem right.  Black and white is a classic combination and red just adds more class.

fancy tee

shoes: Marc by Marc Jacobs; bracelet: J.Crew; sunglasses: Prada}

We just booked a trip to Disney World (yay!).  This past weekend was extremely hot so I can only imagine what it's going to be like in Florida.  I'll be packing this Free People tee.  It's so breezy, which will be nice in the deathly heat.  I love the cutouts in the shoulders, which makes this tee anything but basic.  I paired it with cutoffs and these Marc by Marc Jacobs wedge espadrilles that I bought last summer to add a pop of colour.  Also because I'm pretty sure I only wore these espadrilles once or twice last summer, which made me think I should probably shop my own closet for my trip rather than buy new things.  We'll see how that goes.

bracelet: J.Crew; shoes: Steve Madden; sunglasses: Prada}

I fell in love with this top as soon as I saw it.  The sleeves and back are so unique and pretty.  I paired it with darker jeans and these amazing Steven Madden mules for a casual night out, but this top can also be paired with cutoffs for a more casual look.  This top is so comfy but so beautiful that it will be a recurring piece this summer and it will be perfect for transitioning into fall.  (Not that I'm wanting fall to come anytime soon.)

sunsets & kimonos

{shorts: Urban Outfitters: tank: Wilfred Free; Free People Sammy Raw Edge Kimono;
bracelets: H&M; MICHAEL Michael Kors Peggy Wedge Sandal; sunglasses: Prada}
I was looking for a kimono recently and came across this beautiful Free People one when I was shopping on their site.  I had already put a few pieces in my cart (that I whittled down from about 20) so I was happy to see that this kimono was not going to break the bank.  This kimono is like a blanket, so perfect for those cooler summer nights.  I also just bought these high-waisted shorts from Urban Outfitters that I am obsessed with (so much so that I bought them in two different colours).  I paired these shorts with a white tank and, once again, refused to wear a bra because I was hanging around in our backyard (bra worn for pictures above), but this kimono was perfect for covering up while I was running errands.  Kimono > wearing a bra.

polkadots & florals

{dress: Talula; blazer: Joie (love this and this one); bracelet: J.Crew; sunglasses: Prada;
sandals: Splendid (similar here and here)}

Recently I wore this exact same dress but in blue (see here) and I was talking about how I also had a black version of the blazer I wore and I was going to wear it with this dress.  But I also happened to pull this beautiful Joie blazer that I bought last year out of my closet to remind myself to wear it soon.  (When you have a ridiculous amount of clothes, you need to do this at times, or else the season will pass and before you know it it's winter and you'll be kicking yourself saying, 'Why didn't I wear that?!'  Which is why I wonder sometimes why I continue to buy clothes and then I remember... oh, right, I'm a shopaholic.)  I saw this blazer hanging up outside my closet door and thought why wouldn't I wear this blazer rather than go with the obvious black?  I love mixing prints and this dress is perfect for doing so because the polkadots are not 'in your face'.  Because the blazer has speckles of yellow in it, my yellow Coach bag, which is my go-to these days, tied the outfit nicely together.  (See here on Instagram.)

So now that I wore this blazer, I'm already trying to figure out other ways of wearing it because I thought, 'Why do I not wear this beautiful blazer more often?!'  Oh, right, because of the excess clothing thing.

easy breezy maxi slip

{Free People Easy Breezy Crochet Slip; top: Mendocino (old); bracelets: H&M;
shoes (love these), necklace: GUESS; hat: BCBG (other styles); sunglasses: Prada}

It was a coincidence that it was super windy when I wore this Free People 'easy breezy' slip.  I ordered a bunch of stuff from Free People, which arrived the day before Canada Day, and loved every single piece equally so it was hard to decide what to wear first.  But it happened to be extremely hot on Canada Day so this slip won.  I would have preferred to wear this slip on its own because of the heat, but it's sheer and I was not in the mood to wear a bra (well, I'm usually never in the mood to wear a bra, which is one of the reasons why I want to order this slip in another colour).  So I wore this sheer top, which is my go-to layering piece in the summer because it's so lightweight.  Now the hard part... deciding on what colour of this slip to buy next!
