waterfalls

It was a gorgeous weekend this past weekend so we spent most of it outdoors, which of course included going for froyo on Saturday and gelato on Sunday.  (I cannot go through a warm day without eating ice cream.)  I lived in tees and these ZARA jeans this past weekend because they were the easiest to throw on.  I didn't feel like thinking about what to wear because I just wanted to enjoy the sunshine since this warm weather won't last much longer.  I did, however, want to wear this beautiful Free People necklace I bought a couple of weeks ago so I paired it with a white tee so that it was the focus of my outfit.

p.s. When I say I go for froyo, I mean toppings. {photo via Instagram}

pink & grey

{sweater: ZARA; jeans: GAP; hat: BCBG; rings: Free People
handbag (other colours, this one bought in-store), sunglasses: Prada}

I was not planning on buying any sweaters the other day when I walked into ZARA because it's been fairly warm these days (I was actually looking for something for my daughter), but when I came across this sweater and felt how soft it was then saw the price tag of $20(!), I could not resist buying it...in 3 different colours.  Because, c'mon, $20!  I can go overboard with pink sometimes and have to be careful to not look like a child so I think adding grey accessories tone down the brightness of the sweater perfectly.

plaid on plaid

I'm obsessed with plaid. It's probably the thing I'm most excited about wearing in the fall.  I actually have to stop myself from buying more plaid pieces because I have so many now.  I've mixed plaid with florals before but never with another plaid item, which I've been seeing a lot lately, so I thought I'd try it and I love the combination.  This outfit actually took me minutes to put together because 1) I had the idea of pairing two plaid pieces in the back of my mind lately 2) I've been dying to wear this jacket and yesterday was finally cold enough and 3) this Free People skirt is amazing.  One of the best purchases I made last fall.  And this jacket is probably the best purchase I made this fall.  So naturally they make a great pair.  I also have never done the OTK sock thing and it's going to be my go-to look for the next couple of weeks before it gets too cold.  It's a great alternative when you don't want to start wearing tights just yet.

not-so-basic basics

{skirt (old, love this one), sweater: Wilfred Free; tee: Wilfred; socks: GAP;

I bought a Prada bag recently and blew my fall budget already so I'm trying to be smart with my shopping lately (or actually not shop at all, which will be impossible and will not happen).  I'm also planning to go to Paris in the spring, which has always been a dream of mine and included in that dream is to buy a Chanel bag.  So I'm all about basics lately and these are probably my favourite so it made sense to put them all together.  These pieces will be worn over and over again this fall and winter.  I bought this faux leather skirt years ago and I am still obsessed with it.  This grey tee will go with everything and I'll soon be pairing it with a long-sleeved blouse underneath for extra warmth.  And this sweater.  I am in love with this sweater.  It was more than I would usually pay for a plain, white sweater, but this sweater is anything but plain.  As you can see, the texture of this sweater is beautiful and it is so cozy and soft you just want to live in it, so it definitely was a great investment.

going green

This is the third time I bought this Wilfred sweater, this time in a beautiful green.  It seems to be a tradition that I buy this sweater every fall, thankfully they keep coming back with it.  I have it in a beautiful cream with leaves printed on it and a leopard print one.  It's the perfect layering sweater for this time of year because it's so lightweight and this weather is all over the place.  So you can wear it over a long-sleeved shirt for when you need a little coverage, or when it gets colder and you need to throw on a jacket, it's not too bulky.  I might actually buy it in more colours this fall because it's that perfect.  It also goes perfectly with this plaid shirt I recently picked up from ZARA.  I clearly am having a thing for green lately.

slip . . . and fall

It's officially sweater weather, I think for good.  Today's cool and it's only supposed to get colder for the next week.  I should have worn this dress yesterday when it was warmer, but it was too warm for this sweater and I love this combination.  So I was a little cold this morning, but this sweater is keeping me warm.  I fell in love with this dress as soon as I saw it.  The lace detailing is so beautiful and the dress just hangs off your body perfectly.  This sweater is super cozy and does not itch at all, which I usually find with wool.  I have a feeling I'll be wearing this combination a lot, but next time I'll probably be adding tights.

falling for . . . oversize knit cardigans

{cardigan, shoes (old): ZARA; dress: MINKPINK; sunglasses: Prada}

It's starting to get cool in the mornings, but I'm not ready to wear a jacket quite yet.  So my favourite thing to do this time of year is to wear an oversize cardigan as a jacket.  At least for the first couple, or few if we're lucky, weeks of September.  The problem with oversize cardigans is that they're hard to wear with a jacket, or even most coats, so this is basically the only time to wear them, unless it's the middle of winter and it's that cold that you need to wear it under a puffer coat, which is when I'm really sad because that means it's really freakin' cold.  They're also great to make your summer dresses last throughout fall, especially when the afternoons are still really warm.  I love this one from ZARA.  It's a no-fuss cardigan.  No pockets, no buttons, it's just like a blanket that you can wrap yourself in.

high/low

{bag: Prada (in-store, larger version here, adore the mini version);
nail polish: Deborah Lippmann 'Waking Up in Vegas' (love this sparkly one);
top, rings: Free People; shorts: GAP (old, similar here); sandals: ASOS}

My son started SK, karate and hip hop classes this week.  Needless to say it's been hectic.  It was also an extremely hot week and I was not in the mood for it.  So I've been a bit quiet in the blogging/Instagram world.  Last weekend, however, I had some shopping to do.  I won a $500 Holt Renfrew gift card from an Instagram contest months ago and I had yet to spend it.  I wanted to buy something so that I would always remember that.  Walking into Holt Renfrew I did not plan on walking out with a Prada.  I thought I would buy another pair of Valentino flats (the more simpler ballet version), or a pair of Chanel flats that I've always wanted.  But nothing screamed 'take me home' more than this beautiful Prada bag.  The size, the colour, everything about it is perfect.  It is definitely a splurge, but speaking with the saleswoman I realized I hadn't splurged on a bag since I bought my Louis Vuitton 9 years ago, which I used for 4-5 years.  (These are the types of excuses that I use anyway when I tell my husband I need a new ______.)

I do balance things, however, by shopping at ASOS (these sandals are under $45!) and Free People (these rings, which come in a pack of 4, are $14!)  Again, another way of convincing my husband.  I pretty much just get an eye roll at this point.

blue

{top: Free People (also here); jeans: ZARA; shoes: Nine West; rings: Gorjana (heart one sold out);
bag: MICHAEL Michael Kors (orange version, love this grey one for fall); sunglasses: Prada}

Hello, September!  (You'd think it was the first day of summer with this heat.  I'm not complaining too much because it was great to end August at the beach.)  I used to live in heels, but as I got older they were more hard to wear.  Probably because I used to run for the train in them and my back has paid the consequences.  But I LOVE heels so it's heartbreaking I can't wear them like I used to.  (I'm obsessed with wedges but sometimes want a break from them.)  Occasionally I do find a pair of heels that are comfortable.  Cobalt is one of my favourite colours so when I walked by Nine West on my way to work these caught my eye.  I was so thrilled that the heel was under 4" and was not a stiletto.  They are super comfortable and the perfect shoe to transition into fall with since, clearly, fall can't make up it's mind if it wants to stay just yet.
