the polka dot

I've always loved a polka dot (see here layered over another print, polka dot denim here paired with more denim, here mixed with leopard and here mixed with florals).  As you can tell, I love mixing prints.  But this polka dot sweatshirt is cropped so I paired it with a high-waisted denim skirt.  It was another beautiful weekend and we headed out for ice cream.  At first I thought it was too warm to wear this sweatshirt, but it's light enough that I wasn't too hot and later it had cooled down so it kept me warm.

Speaking of loving polka dots, I just ordered these 7 For All Mankind High Waist Short with Frayed Hem and Dot Stamp.  If it wasn't warming up here in the South, I'd be jumping to buy this Rails Perci Sweater, which is now on sale!  Below are a few other polka dot items I'm eyeing:

Tularosa Dylan Romper, $198;
Tularosa Hattie Dress, $168;
  Majorelle Bali Top, $148;
Faithfull the Brand Lavender Top, $119;
English Factory Sleeveless Maxi Dress, $78;
Endless Rose Red Polka Dot Dress, $100;
ASOS Design Ruffle Cami, $32;
7 For All Mankind Polka Dot High Waist Ankle Skinny Jeans, $229;
WHIT Polka Dot Linen Blouse, $338

grandpa sweater / mixing brown & black

Lack of Color Zulu Rancher (also here)

Hope everyone had a great long weekend!  The weather has been so bonkers here (one week we'll get weather in the mid-20s (high 70s in F) and then it'll go back down to the single digits (somewhere between 30-40 degrees in F - you'd think I would have figured out the C to F conversion by now having lived in the States for almost 4 years, but I don't).  So I've been hesitating to buy more sweaters, but the deals have been too good.  This Free People Grandpa Sweater is one of the sweaters I picked up.  I love the oversized fit and contrast trim.  It's quite cozy, so on one of the warm(er) days I paired it with a denim skirt and booties.  I think there used to be a 'rule' not to mix brown and black, but I love them paired together.

Here are some other Free People sweaters on sale that I've been eyeing:

 Fluffy Fox Sweater
Taffy Sweater Cardi
Eleven Sweater (wearing it on the blog in blue here)
City Stroll Pullover (love the colour!)
Keep A Secret Cashmere Tunic

neutrals & mixing prints

Free People Rugged Denim Mini Skirt (on sale for under $15!);
Isabel Marant Etoile Ralf Gaucho Velvet Boots (old but found them here and here, similar here;
Brixton Hat (old, similar here and here)
Louis Vuitton Palm Springs Backpack Mini

The print and colours of this Spell Oasis blouse scream fall.  I also love a flowy blouse.  We had mild weather recently so I paired the blouse with a Free People denim skirt and a pair of Isabel Marant booties.  I love mixing prints and the easiest way to do so is by sticking with the same colour family, especially neutrals.

Happy mixing!

retro / striped tee

{Free People Need You Printed Tee (comes in 3 colours);
Brixton Dalila Hat (sold out, love this one);

I'm always on the lookout for a tee that's not basic (I have enough black tees), but that I could wear without a bra.  This Free People Need You Printed Tee is certainly not basic.  I love the colourful stripes!  They're in the front and back of this 'easy, relaxed fit' tee.  Last Friday night we went for a stroll downtown Greenville so I paired this tee with my go-to One Teaspoon Junkyard Skirt and white vans (not shown).  I thought of pairing this outfit with my pink Rebecca Minkoff bag, but instead decided to keep my accessories neutral and let the colourful stripes stand out even more.  Also, I'm in fall fashion mode lately now that fall items are starting to appear online and in stores.  This outfit would transition perfectly into fall with a cardigan (I'm obsessing over this Free People Creme Brulee Cardi) and over-the-knee boots (can never go wrong with the Stuart Weitzman The Lowland Boot!  Also love these Vince Camuto Karinda Over The Knee Boots - they're under $250!).

Happy shopping!

multicolored knit & tassels

{ZARA Strappy Multicolored Top (matching shorts here, which I also bought and love);
One Teaspoon Junkyard Skirt (other colours);
TOPSHOP FALCON Buckle Sandals (8 different styles!);

My last post was a bit of a downer so I'm perking things up with some colour, or actually a lot of colour!  This ZARA Strappy Multicolored Top is so fun with all of the colours and the tassels make it unique.  There are matching knit shorts (so comfy!), but you have to buy them separately.  I bought both pieces because I love a set and you get an outfit for under $70.  A set is great when you don't feel like thinking about putting an outfit together.  But I decided to let the top stand out so I paired it with my go-to One Teaspoon denim skirt.  I'm not a fan of Birkenstocks (I find them rather uncomfortable - but I believe you have to wear them in), but these similar Topshop sandals are actually quite comfortable even though they're synthetic, which I normally stay away from.  I love the gold touches!

It's our last full day in Myrtle Beach today!  We close our home tomorrow and then we're off to Greenville, SC, and staying in a hotel for a week before we move into our new home!

Hope everyone has a great week!

easy breezy pt II

Hope everyone had a great weekend!  We're currently enjoying the beautiful sunshine and relaxing by the pool in Florida.  I did not pack this FAITHFULL THE BRAND top, but only because it's been on repeat and is now in the wash.  The first time I wore this FAITHFULL THE BRAND off-the-shoulder top, I styled it with white jeans and mules (see post here) for what I think is the perfect spring outfit.  For a day at the beach, I paired this easy breezy top with my go-to One Teaspoon denim skirt (last seen on the blog here), sandals and, of course, my Lack of Color hat.  On the way to the beach, we could not resist taking pictures by these beautiful white flowers.  Last month, there were pink flowers in the same area, as seen on the blog here.  We're hoping to take a day trip to West Palm Beach this week and I'm excited to see how everything is blooming there.  We also might make a trip to Charleston later in the week and I'm sure it's beautiful there as well.

Hope everyone has a great week!

denim & ruffles

Anthropologie Tee (similar here and tank version here);
Prada Sunglasses (also here)}

This time change is ruining my life.  And this weather is not making things better.  I mostly feel bad for the people who came here this week for March Break, probably booking their trip when they saw the temps were in the 70s/80s for the past few weeks.  Now it's barely reaching 60 degrees.  And it's been raining.  I'm bummed myself because I sorted through all of the spring/summer items I bought during the shopbop sale (some of the items I kept surprised me, I returned some items that I thought I would love, bummed some items did not work, in the end I blew my entire budget ha) and cannot wait to start wearing them!  (If you missed the sale, I think they have a similar sale coming up end of March.)

These pictures were taken a couple of weekends ago when we were coming back from a festival for the kiddies.  I bought this MSGM denim jacket back in January at Farfetch and finally pulled it out!  I'm not a huge jacket person because I always feel restricted with sleeves (weird, I know) so when I saw this jacket, I knew it was meant for me.  This is my first MSGM piece and I am now a huge fan!  When I find a designer piece I love and want to buy, I always check Farfetch first as you can usually get it a bit cheaper because they source many boutiques from around the world.  (You can check out more MSGM pieces here.  I love these ruffle trim shorts, these ruffle trimmed cropped jeans and this ruffled gingham check top.)  This is not an ad, ha.

I've been wanting to wear this MSGM denim jacket with a striped turtleneck and black jeans, but it was always a bit too warm for all of the layers, so I paired it with my favourite denim skirt for a denim on denim look, which I still love, and a white ruffle trimmed tee that I've been wearing a lot lately for layering.  I bought this Feel The Piece striped top during the shopbop sale and it would go perfectly with this jacket, but I actually think it might be too cold tomorrow.  I might actually get to wear that turtleneck after all.  Hopefully it won't be raining and we can shoot some pictures!

Hope everyone's keeping warm!

sweater & sandals

{For Love & Lemons x KNITZ Clemence Sweater (also here);
One Teaspoon Junkyard Skirt (sold out colour);
Schutz Gloria Tall Gladiator Sandals (similar here and here, love these shorter ones and have them in two colours);
Urban Outfitters Fedora (similar here);
Prada Sunglasses}

I never quite understood wearing a sweater with a skirt (or shorts) and sandals...until I moved to Myrtle Beach.  The weather has been gorgeous lately and we headed to the beach this past weekend.  Rather than jump into wearing an off-the-shoulder top, which I'm SO happy is still a trend, I'm easing my way into Spring and decided to start with a pair of tall gladiator sandals.  I paired them with my favourite One Teaspoon denim skirt and this For Love & Lemons sweater, which was perfect for when there was a breeze.  (Tip: if it's not quite sandal weather yet where you live, just add a pair of over-the-knee boots or booties!)

palm tree life / day in paradise

One Teaspoon Junkyard Skirt (also here for 50% off!);
Brixton Dalila Hat (colour I'm wearing sold out);

We have been seriously spoiled with the weather lately.  In November, I was wearing a coat (for only a few days, but still).  Then it warmed up.  Just a couple of weekends ago I was miserable because it was SO cold (again, only for a few days, but still).  And even though in a blog post earlier this year when I was recommending my favourite faux fur/shag coats I said I would not invest in any more coats since we only get about 2 weeks of winter, I ended up ordering a couple because it was that cold.  But then it went up to the 70s two days later so I returned them.  (Also because neither worked for me.)  This is definitely not me asking you to feel sorry for me ha.  But I've been back and forth between deciding if I should order some (spring-ish) sweaters (it is supposed to cool down again), or go straight to summer clothes (especially because summer clothes from last year are up to 70-80% off!)  But it's not quite that warm, so instead I found a balance with this Show Me Your Mumu Bonfire Sweater.  The long sleeves keep you warm when it's breezy, but it's light enough for when the temp goes up.  I normally stay away from polyester but this sweater is quite soft.  Bonus, it's 'basically wrinkle-proof'!  Of course, I mainly fell in love with this sweater because I'm a sucker for palm trees and will miss them almost as much as the beach when we move to Greenville.  At least I'll have this sweater.

embroidered jacket & denim skirt

{Free People Embroidered Swingy Jacket (comes in 5 colours, also love this maxi and this cardi);
Madewell Whisper Cotton Crewneck Tee;
Isabel Marant Etoile Booties (similar here);
Urban Outfitters Fedora (similar here);

What a gorgeous weekend we had in Myrtle Beach this past weekend.  80 degrees!  I had just put this One Teaspoon Junkyard Skirt away (last seen here) since the temps dropped drastically and I was happy I was able to start wearing jeans (although I did just buy this ZARA Tulle Denim Skirt).  We headed to the beach a little later and it was a bit breezy so this jacket was perfect.  If you're going away for the holidays, I highly recommend it.  We're heading to Disney tomorrow so I will definitely be packing this jacket.  The embroidery is SO beautiful and I love me a balloon sleeve.

If you're looking for something cozy warm for the holidays, check out my post here!  Coziest. Sweater. Ever.  If you're looking for that ugly-but-not-really-ugly Christmas sweater, this MINKPINK Gifted Intazia Sweater is adorable!  And if you're looking for something velvet for that holiday party, I just ordered this ZARA Velvet Cut-Out Shoulder Sweater (also in green).

Happy shopping and happy holidays!

drippy pullover in December

Hello, December!  We have been super spoiled with the weather lately.  I've been living in this Free People Drippy Extreme Pullover.  It is SO cozy and perfect for this weather.  After cleaning out my closet, I realized I own a ridiculous amount of sweaters from living in Canada, but not many tops like this one.  I will definitely be buying this pullover in another colour.  (I also bought this thermal.)  I LIVE for pjs.  Like, I can't be in my house with regular clothes on.  It feels unnatural to me to wear jeans in my house.  This top feels like you're wearing your pjs.  At least now I don't have to be embarrassed getting the mail.  I'm still working on the whole pants thing.  (I'm eyeing these joggers.)

denim skirt & boho blouse (fall edition)

{Spell & the Gypsy Collective Blouse (love this and this similar one);
Isabel Marant Etoile Booties (similar here);
Brixton Dalila Hat in Brown (colour I'm wearing sold out);

I was eyeing a Spell blouse recently and remembered about this one I bought back in April that I don't think I've worn since I last blogged about it because it has been extremely hot since then.  (I can't wait to pair it with these Free People flared jeans.)  It's still quite warm here (people were still in their bikinis at the beach!), but I'm ready for fall and nothing can stop me.  So I paired my Spell blouse with Isabel Marant Etoile booties (when it's cooler I'll be pairing this outfit with these Stuart Weitzman over-the-knee boots) and this One Teaspoon Junkyard skirt, which I'm clearly obsessed with since it's the fourth time I've blogged about it this month.  I swear, I wear other things.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

denim skirt & OTK boots

{ZARA Sweater (last year's, similar here and love this lace-up one and this one);
Stuart Weitzman The Lowland Boot (colour I'm wearing appears to be sold out);

This is now the third time I've styled this One Teaspoon Junkyard skirt this month alone (last seen with sneakers and a tee here and with a boho blouse and lace-up sandals here).  I'm hoping they make this skirt in black because it has become my go-to piece for fall.  It's a nice break from cutoffs.  Actually, I wore it for a fourth time yesterday to the beach (with a Spell blouse and Isabel Marant booties - post to come!), but now that one's in the wash so I need a back-up.  It cooled down quite a bit before we left for Canada and I was able to pair this skirt with my favourite Stuart Weitzman over-the-knee boots (one investment I will never regret).  Add a cozy grey sweater and it's the perfect outfit for fall.  I have a feeling this outfit will be on repeat.

denim skirt & boho blouse

Another day at the beach before the hurricane, in the evening this time, I wore this One Teaspoon Junkyard Skirt - again (last seen paired with sneakers and a tee here).  This time I dressed it up a little with this Tularosa Huxley Top (last seen here with black cutoffs) and lace-up sandals.  I was never much of a denim skirt kind of girl (I own a few denim skirts and hardly wear them - again, the whole thighs rubbing when it's super hot thing is probably a factor).  But it's safe to say this One Teaspoon Junkyard Skirt was a great investment.  Maybe because it's somewhat cooling down in the South (i.e., not in the 80s).  Or maybe because it's a killer denim skirt.  I even wore it a third time before we left (so that makes 3x in one week).  It cooled down even more in Myrtle Beach just before we left and I paired this denim skirt with a sweater and over-the-knee boots (post to come!).

Not only are beach days the best days, but beach nights are pretty freakin' great too.

denim skirt & sneakers

Rag & Bone/JEAN Suzanne Tee (other colours);
Brixton Hat (one I'm wearing sold out, found it here);

A rainy day outfit.  I bought this One Teaspoon Junkyard Skirt early last week and have already worn it twice.  (It's already almost sold out at Revolve, but Nasty Gal has every size in stock!)  It's perfect for someone petite like me.  And I love it for the same reason I love my One Teaspoon Bandits - your booty is covered!
(Tip: size up!)

cami + white tee + denim #inspo

Happy Friday!  I've been under the weather this past week and now that I feel better, a tropical storm is heading our way.  So far we've just been getting a lot of rain.  Other than that it's been deathly hot here, even more than last year, more humidity, which is the reason for the lack of blog posts.  I'm not complaining - I would not trade it for winter/snow, but it's hard when you can barely leave the house wearing anything other than a bathing suit.  Plus, fall is my favourite season, as I mentioned in my last post, and it's a bummer that it's too hot to really start shopping for it.  I'm kind of over summer clothes, although the sales out there are crazy good.  Being sick though the past week, I've been spending a lot of time online shopping and getting inspired again and the piece I keep coming back to is the cami (or slip dress, as discussed in this post), preferably with lace.  I love the many different ways you can wear it - on its own, of course, layered under a cardigan... But my favourite way to layer a (lace) cami is over a white tee, which is about the most layering I will be able to do for the next little while.  (These Free People tees are great for layering and Madewell is having a sale on these.)  I've been going back and forth between the two camis above.  Below are some of my other favourite (mostly lace) camis.

Happy shopping!

{Update: Just came across the amazing cami, above, from ZARA.}
