floral print mini dress / rental

Happy April!  It's a new month and I have hope that we will get through this soon.  With everything going on, I can't imagine too many people are shopping right now.  I happened to have rented the clothes I will be blogging about in the near future from Rent the Runway days before the close of schools, etc.  Of course I'm bummed I can't wear the beautiful clothes out and about, but there are worst things happening right now and I'm doing my part and practicing social distancing, while also using up our free time to blog.  Plus, taking pictures for me is one thing keeping my 10 yo son busy.  I've been very impressed with his photography skills!  This was my first time renting from Rent the Runway so I'm hesitant to recommend it since I'm not too familiar with it, but I know it's one (if not the first) clothing rental company.  You can rent the dress here.  Otherwise, if you do want to purchase it, I've linked a bunch of sites, above.

What I can recommend is this Cleobella dress.  It is SO pretty!  I love the colours.  It's light and breezy material is perfect for the heat we've been having.  I envision dressing this mini dress up with some sandals and enjoying a night out, eating at our favourite restaurant.  I'm eyeing these Schutz sandals at Revolve.

Happy (online) shopping/renting!

the polka dot

I've always loved a polka dot (see here layered over another print, polka dot denim here paired with more denim, here mixed with leopard and here mixed with florals).  As you can tell, I love mixing prints.  But this polka dot sweatshirt is cropped so I paired it with a high-waisted denim skirt.  It was another beautiful weekend and we headed out for ice cream.  At first I thought it was too warm to wear this sweatshirt, but it's light enough that I wasn't too hot and later it had cooled down so it kept me warm.

Speaking of loving polka dots, I just ordered these 7 For All Mankind High Waist Short with Frayed Hem and Dot Stamp.  If it wasn't warming up here in the South, I'd be jumping to buy this Rails Perci Sweater, which is now on sale!  Below are a few other polka dot items I'm eyeing:

Tularosa Dylan Romper, $198;
Tularosa Hattie Dress, $168;
  Majorelle Bali Top, $148;
Faithfull the Brand Lavender Top, $119;
English Factory Sleeveless Maxi Dress, $78;
Endless Rose Red Polka Dot Dress, $100;
ASOS Design Ruffle Cami, $32;
7 For All Mankind Polka Dot High Waist Ankle Skinny Jeans, $229;
WHIT Polka Dot Linen Blouse, $338

oversized sweatshirt

Urban Outfitters Fedora (similar here)

I love a good sweatshirt.  Being a stay-at-home mom, I basically live in a sweatshirt.  I prefer an oversized one because I like a sweatshirt I can move around in.  I love this ZARA Contrasting Oversized Sweatshirt.  I mean, it has denim on the back!  I paired the sweatshirt with a pair of black FRAME skinny jeans because I like the added contrast, but I plan on going full on Canadian tuxedo with it (i.e., blue denim on blue denim).

Here are some other oversized sweatshirts I'm eyeing (or own):

FRIENDS Logo Crew-Neck Sweatshirt (my favourite sweatshirt, I own 3 of them!);
Free People High Road Pullover (comes in 4 colours);
ZARA Soft Feel Sweatshirt (basic, but I love the colour);

grandpa sweater / mixing brown & black

Lack of Color Zulu Rancher (also here)

Hope everyone had a great long weekend!  The weather has been so bonkers here (one week we'll get weather in the mid-20s (high 70s in F) and then it'll go back down to the single digits (somewhere between 30-40 degrees in F - you'd think I would have figured out the C to F conversion by now having lived in the States for almost 4 years, but I don't).  So I've been hesitating to buy more sweaters, but the deals have been too good.  This Free People Grandpa Sweater is one of the sweaters I picked up.  I love the oversized fit and contrast trim.  It's quite cozy, so on one of the warm(er) days I paired it with a denim skirt and booties.  I think there used to be a 'rule' not to mix brown and black, but I love them paired together.

Here are some other Free People sweaters on sale that I've been eyeing:

 Fluffy Fox Sweater
Taffy Sweater Cardi
Eleven Sweater (wearing it on the blog in blue here)
City Stroll Pullover (love the colour!)
Keep A Secret Cashmere Tunic

zip

Free People We The Free Nikala Tee (avail in 9 colours; red on sale here);
Lack of Color Zulu Rancher (also here);
Prada Sunglasses

I was not expecting much from this Free People top, but because it was on sale at ASOS, I purchased it in red (above) and green (out of stock, found it here).  This tee definitely exceeded my expectations!  It's very comfy to wear and I love that you can wear it with the zipper down or up (I prefer down because I love anything off-the-shoulder).  This is a must-have tee.  It comes in 9 colours on the Free People site (I might even pick myself up another colour - or two!).  It's the perfect tee for layering now (i.e., with a cardigan) and for transitioning into spring with (it's not too heavy and not too thin).

new year, new hat

Lack of Color Zulu Rancher (also here);
Free People Break Away Pullover Sweater (avail in 5 colours; also here on sale);
AGOLDE Sophie High Rise Crop Jeans;
Rebecca Minkoff Kaiegan Boots

I love hats. I've loved hats for as long as I can remember. When I lived in Canada, I wore toques (beanies) all winter.  Sometimes they're even necessary in the South (i.e., a couple of weeks ago).  In the summer, I live in my Lack of Color The Spencer Boater.  (I'm eyeing this Hat Attack Braid Continental Hat, which is similar, but has a cute braided band.)  Lack of Color makes great hats.  My newest purchase is their Zulu Rancher, which I'm obsessed with.  I'm also eyeing the Ivory Rancher. It goes perfectly with a cozy sweater and skinny jeans.

january blues

Free People Eleven Sweater (also here and here in 4 colours);
Urban Outfitters Hat (similar here);
Prada Sunglasses

I think most people get the January blues, so why not wear a bright blue sweater to brighten things up?  This Free People Eleven Sweater is super soft and cozy.  I love that it's long enough to wear with leggings because, to be honest, leggings are my jam all winter.  But here I'm wearing a very comfy pair of stretch-denim FRAME jeans that I bought on sale at Net-A-Porter, which is now having a final clearance sale!

colourful coat

I'm obsessed with this Mango Faux Fur Jacket by dRA.  As per my previous post, it is SO soft!  But mostly I love the colour.  It's rare for me to buy a black coat in the winter because I do not like the cold so I need anything that'll help with the whole leaving-the-house thing.

Exhibit A: red coat;
Exhibit B: blue coat;
Exhibit C: pink coat;
Exhibit D: green coat; and
Exhibit E: animal print coat.  Okay, this is not colourful per se, but how gorgeous is it?

Basically what I'm trying to say is black is boring (not that I don't think everyone should own a classic black coat).  I even recently bought this burgundy I.AM.GIA coat (purchased here, also avail here in 4 colours), but ended up giving it to my sister because she loved it.  But I also purchased it in red, which is avail here for under $50!

Back to this mango faux fur coat.  It's technically called a 'jacket', but to me a jacket is for spring or fall.  In the winter, you need a coat.  To me, this is cozy enough to be considered a coat.  The other night I paired it with my just-as-colourful Madewell sweater and a pair of UGG boots for some extra coziness.  Perfect outfit to brighten up a gloomy evening.

mango faux fur jacket

ZARA Embroidered Top (sold out online, other styles here, here, here and here)

This is my favourite faux fur jacket I have ever owned.  It's SO soft and fluffy, even my kids are obsessed with it.  Plus, the mango colour is SO pretty!  I paired it with an embroidered top I purchased at ZARA this past summer (it's sold out online, but I've tagged others, above, which are on sale!)

cozy striped sweater & western boot trend

We took our kids ice skating yesterday for the first time in downtown Greenville.  It was a gorgeous day!  They had so much fun (while I watched ha).  I wore this super cozy Madewell sweater (I love a good striped sweater for fall - and a balloon sleeve!) and these comfy AGOLDE jeans (seriously, they are SO comfy for skinny jeans).  I love the western boot trend (I'm obsessing over these Jeffrey Campbell ones) and have been on the hunt for the perfect pair.  I tried another brand but they were too stiff.  These Rebecca Minkoff ones are SO soft and comfortable.  This will definitely be one of my go-to outfits for fall.

folk dress

Brixton Dalila Hat (this colour sold out, dark brown here);

Hope everyone had a great spring break and Easter weekend!  We were in Orlando last week and just chilled by the pool at a resort for 4 days.  We were going to take a little trip one day to West Palm Beach, but we were enjoying relaxing so much we did not want to spend another minute in a car, let alone for 2 hours.  Next time.  I was looking forward to doing some shopping in West Palm Beach, but on our way home I discovered the Mall at Millenia.  That mall surely made up for it.  I've been to Florida a handful of times in the past few years and have never been because I never knew it even existed (!).  (My hubby is thankful about that, ha.)  It's an upscale mall with Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, Gucci, Chanel, etc. and I was in heaven.  I tried the Gucci mules I was talking about here.  They're even more beautiful in person.  They feel super comfortable and fit TTS.  I'm leaning toward the rose-print ones if I do purchase a pair, but hesitated/am hesitating because most days I spend wearing sneakers or am barefoot at the beach.

Speaking of the beach, I wore this Spell & The Gypsy Kombi Folk Dress to the beach the evening before we left for Florida, but I wish I had saved it for our trip.  (You can see a few of the pieces I packed for our trip on my Instagram here).  It is easily the most comfortable dress I have ever owned.  It would have been great for one of our evening trips to Disney Springs.  The material is so light and airy.  I love the loose sleeves and especially love the open back with the hanging tassels, which is that Spell touch.  The colour is beautiful.  (It also comes in lavender, but it's almost sold out.  I also ordered the Kombi Flutter Dress, but unfortunately it was too long on me.  It also comes in a sundress.)

I love that you can just slip this Spell dress on and go.  It works as a casual dress for shopping or the beach and because of the beautiful print (which is an original Spell hand-drawn print) and details, it works for brunch or dinner.  This beautiful midi dress is more of a maxi dress on me, so rather than pairing it with flat sandals (if I could, I would pair them with my Adidas slides), I paired it with brown MICHAEL Michael Kors wedge sandals (not shown; I also think these Joie lace up sandals or these Sam Edelman strappy wedge sandals would look amazing).  Since it was later in the day, rather than throw on my go-to sun hat, I opted for a floppy wool hat.

#OOTD / dream shirt and mini skirt

#OOTD / dream shirt and mini skirt

Happy Friday!  I'm really loving these types of shirts right now - easy, breezy.  It's similar to this Spell Folk Town blouse I wore a few months ago (new style of that blouse here).  I'd be all over buying this top (and the new Spell one because I basically want to own everything Spell) but it's way too hot here, even in the evening.  Anything long sleeve is a no-go.  But I see fall styles already starting to trickle in (depressing, I know) and this is what I picture for when it starts cooling down a bit here.  I've been on the hunt for the perfect denim mini skirt, ideally in a light colour since I bought a darker denim skirt (but A-line) last season.  I'm just avoiding skirts right now because of the whole thighs sticking together in this heat thing.  I picture this outfit with these See by Chloe denim platform sandals, which I've been obsessing over.  I had pre-ordered them a while ago but they won't be available until end of August so I cancelled them because I am too impatient.  But they're now available here!

frayed & laced

Lack of Color The Spencer Boater Hat;
Prada Sunglasses}

Back in March, I paired this J.O.A. off the shoulder denim top with white skinny jeans (see post here).  This time I went with the opposite: black shorts.  Also, it is deathly hot here.  I almost wish I paired it with a black skirt.  Next time!  I half-tucked in the top this time since the top is almost as long as the shorts.  A great trick unless you like people thinking you're not wearing pants ha.  Then I added the usual suspects - my Lack of Color Hat, Vanessa Mooney bolo necklace and my now go-to ASOS sandals, which are super comfortable.
