colourful coat

I'm obsessed with this Mango Faux Fur Jacket by dRA.  As per my previous post, it is SO soft!  But mostly I love the colour.  It's rare for me to buy a black coat in the winter because I do not like the cold so I need anything that'll help with the whole leaving-the-house thing.

Exhibit A: red coat;
Exhibit B: blue coat;
Exhibit C: pink coat;
Exhibit D: green coat; and
Exhibit E: animal print coat.  Okay, this is not colourful per se, but how gorgeous is it?

Basically what I'm trying to say is black is boring (not that I don't think everyone should own a classic black coat).  I even recently bought this burgundy I.AM.GIA coat (purchased here, also avail here in 4 colours), but ended up giving it to my sister because she loved it.  But I also purchased it in red, which is avail here for under $50!

Back to this mango faux fur coat.  It's technically called a 'jacket', but to me a jacket is for spring or fall.  In the winter, you need a coat.  To me, this is cozy enough to be considered a coat.  The other night I paired it with my just-as-colourful Madewell sweater and a pair of UGG boots for some extra coziness.  Perfect outfit to brighten up a gloomy evening.

fringe sweater

Over the holidays, we took a road trip to Ottawa for a day of shopping (well, mostly eating).  I wore this Line & Dot fringe sweater, which I am obsessed with!  As soon as I saw it, I ordered it immediately.  I love a cable knit sweater, especially in white, and the fringe detail makes it so unique and fun.  I wore it with a pair of 7FAM skinny jeans and my go-to UGG boots, which are a must IMO when you live in/visit Canada.  Of course, another must-have for me has always been a toque/beanie.  We went to the mall the first day we arrived in Canada and I headed straight to Aritzia.  They had exactly what I was looking for.  This toque/beanie is super soft and definitely kept me warm(er).  It comes in a variety of colours too!  If I still lived in Canada, I definitely would've picked up a few.

cozy in Canada

Happy New Year!  Hope everyone had a relaxing holiday.  We were in Canada for 2 weeks and thankfully it was milder than last Christmas, but I'm glad I stocked up on sweaters before I left.  This Madewell sweater is SO soft and cozy.  I love the rainbow stripes!  It's currently on sale and going fast, but you can also get it here at Shopbop.  It's under $100 and I think worth every penny.

Madewell is currently offering 40% off all sale items.  The sweater from my previous post (this balloon-sleeve pullover) is also on sale!

slip dresses in the snow

{Wilfred Leibnez Dress; sweater: ZARA; socks: Free People (sold out, similar, just ordered these);
boots: MICHAEL Michael Kors; hat: Club Monaco; necklace: Juicy Couture; sunglasses: Prada}

I had forgotten about this dress (last seen here) because it was in my huge pile of laundry that I'm not sure I will ever iron, but something reminded me of it so I decided to pull it out and iron it (which became wrinkled again after the car ride).  Of course, the day I decided to wear it (or at least shoot it for my blog), it decided to snow.  The first real snowfall of the winter, er, fall.  It's not even winter yet!  It should not be allowed to snow until Christmas Eve.  Anyway, I braved the cold and it wasn't too bad.  (This cozy ZARA cardigan helped a lot.)  It was actually...nice.  The days following though were horrendous and I already want to hibernate.

bad hair day

{sweater: Urban Outfitters (in-store, love this one); hat: Local Heroes; jeans: J Brand (old, similar);
sunglasses: Prada; lips: Smashbox 'Fuchsia Flash'}

Just a quick post from Instagram of what I'm wearing today on this rainy, miserable day (which I'm okay with because I'm super lazy today).  When it rains, I do not wash my hair because it goes wavy (not in a good way) and frizzy.  So when I saw this hat, I thought it was perfect for me.  I bought it online at Urban Outfitters but they're now sold out, but it's by Local Heroes so you can shop the link above.  Have a great Saturday!

navy & wine

{skirt: Madewell (love this Free People knit one); necklace tee: J.Crew (love this necklace);

I picked up this cute beanie (or, as we Canadians call it, toque) at Urban Outfitters recently.  As I've said, I'm stocking up since winter will be here in a few days.  (Clearly the snow couldn't wait!)  It's a great (and cheap) way of adding a special touch to your outfit.  Just because you have to bundle up, doesn't mean you can't look good doing so!  I love the colour of this one and it's super soft.  This Madewell skirt has been sitting on my floor for a while now because I wanted to pair it with a bright pink sweater I have, but I have yet to iron it.  So I thought it was time to wear it since I probably will never iron that sweater (or at least not any time soon).  I wanted to wear my new toque and thought this J.Crew necklace tee was a perfect match because obviously the colour matches, but also the blue stripes and necklace on the tee pick up the blue stripe on the skirt.  I find I look most put together when I match my pieces, but I try not to go overboard.

winter story

{Free People Shake It Pullover Dress (sold out, obsessing over this lace one);
Free People Winter Story Sweater Legging; hat: Guess; sunglasses: Prada;
Marc by Marc Jacobs Snow Booties (leathertall versions); bag: Louis Vuitton (old)}

I'm stocking up on sweater leggings since it's starting to get really, really cold (below 0).  I love these ones from Free People.  (I wanted the grey pair and now they're back in stock, yay!)  It was definitely fitting that I wore them yesterday since it was freezing and, sure enough, started to snow.  These Marc by Marc Jacobs snow booties are perfect for running errands, they're super comfy and keep your feet warm (plus, they have a hidden wedge!)  I've said it many times before that I hate the cold, but when it started to snow I did get excited because there's a good chance we will have a "white Christmas"!

winter white

boots: Marc by Marc Jacobs (tallleather versions); sunglasses: Prada; lips: Smashbox 'Fuchsia Flash'}

I love wearing white in the winter.  It's so fresh against all the black that people wear.  This BCBG cable sweater is beautiful.  I love the peplum details on the side, which makes it so unique.  It also feels Christmas-y and, although I hate this season, I love this time of year.  I do love a good snow day, but when the snow has already fallen and the sun is out.  Even though there is no snow yet, I thought it was time to bring out these super cozy and comfy Marc by Marc Jacobs boots.  I bought them last winter (and lived in them), but there are leather and taller suede versions available now.  (I'm obsessed with the black tall suede ones.)  I added this cute Express rhinestudded beret (had never shopped there before - cute accessories!) and added a pink lip for colour.  I was definitely going for an all-around cozy, winter (even though it's not technically winter) look.

pop

{sweatshirt: Isabel Marant Pour H&M; GAP 1969 Legging Jeans; hat: J.Crew (similar);
jacket: Anthropologie (in-store, similar) sneaker wedge: Marc by Marc Jacobs; sunglasses: Prada}

Since I found a coat for the winter, I'm now stocking up on toques (or beanies, as some people call them) since last week was freezing.  This weekend was pretty mild, but I find if you wear a toque, you're able to get away with wearing less clothing anyway.  I love this J.Crew one (mine is the non-cashmere version - I bought it in-store) because it's a nice pop of colour against all the black and grey I've been wearing lately.  (Speaking of grey, I missed out on the cardigan I wanted from the Isabel Marant collection for H&M, but needed a sweatshirt and thought this 'smile' one from the kids' collection was cute.)  It's not like me to wear so much of those colours.  And I think I was starting to go through withdrawals last week because I also picked up a neon pink sweater from French Connection, which I am obsessed with.  I feel like myself again!

winter must-have: a toque

{top: Theory (sold out); jeans: 7 For All Mankind (old); jacket: GAP;
hat: Kate Spade; necklace: Juicy Couture (old); bracelet: BCBG (recent);
sunglasses: Marc by Marc Jacobs (old); lipstick: Smashbox 'Fucshia Flash'}

{sweater: Forever 21; jeans: 7 For All Mankind; hat: Guess;
wedge booties: MICHAEL Michael Kors; sunglasses: Marc by Marc Jacobs}

It's always depressing when you come back from a vacation to cold weather and almost immediately forget what the warmth feels like.  (Yesterday, there was a little glimpse of spring.  Hooray!)  I am not a winter person... although I do like wearing, what we Canadians call, toques!  (I think that's only because I have to because I get so cold so easily.)  Winter is so gloomy most of the time, so I'm drawn to hats with character to brighten things up... leopard-print, bright colours, pom-poms.  I love this Marc by Marc Jacobs one, it's super cute!
