candy stripes / sweaterdress

Hope everyone had a great Christmas!  I overate, as per usual, so sweaterdresses for the win!  We've had gorgeous weather lately so thankfully there's been no need for pants.  Also helpful that I'm petite enough to wear this Free People Candy Stripe Tunic as a dress.  I've always loved sweaterdresses, especially living in Canada.  Being able to throw one on with tights and run out the door was the only thing that got me through the winters.  I love any type of sweaterdress, but a pink one?  This one was a no-brainer for me.  Bonus: it's currently 60% off at Macy's!

I love shopping this time of year, when everything is on sale or even on clearance.  Some other tunics/sweaterdresses I'm eyeing:

Solid Sweater Dresses

 Free People Good as Gold Sweater Dress
Free People Easy Street Tunic Sweater (comes in 7 colours!)
Free People Softly Structured Knit Tunic (comes in 5 colours!)
Bardot Long Sleeve Sweater Dress
Madewell Foldover Turtleneck Long Sleeve Sweater Dress

Printed or Patterned Sweater Dresses

Madewell Buffalo Check Long Sleeve Sweater Dress
Madewell Fair Isle Turtleneck Sweater Dress
LPA Floyd Sweater Dress
Lovers + Friends Kamalla Sweater Dress

This one's not on sale, but I love that this Tularosa sweaterdress is belted!  I'm also obsessing over this purple, leopard print For Love & Lemons Marielle Cardi Sweater Dress.

Happy shopping!

cozy & colourful

This Wildfox sweater is SO comfy!!  It's called 'roadtrip sweater' for a reason.  I'll definitely be packing it for our trip to Florida this week.  I love the colourful stripes!  I'm not even 5' tall so I can wear this sweater as a dress, which will be perfect if we get to a beach (but sadly the red tide is not going away).  It's also perfect for weekends by the fire with skinny jeans, or tucked into boyfriend jeans for a day of shopping.

Wildfox's Roadtrip Sweater also comes in other designs and fabrics from lightweight french terry to cuddle fleece here, including one for Christmas!  They're also having an early sale - 40% off sale items!

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving weekend!

Happy shopping!

wear to work: Monday to Casual Friday

#OOTD: Monday to Casual Friday

Happy Friday!  I know at this point of the day you're just thinking about the weekend (and possibly a glass of wine), but I put together some outfits to take you from Monday to 'Casual Friday'.  I think everyone should own a great pair of black cropped trousers (GAP, J.Crew and ZARA are my go-tos), a white blouse, a blue shirt, a black blazer, a pair (or two) of flats (or heels, if that's your preference!), a pair (or two) of booties/boots, a sweaterdress (or 10 - you just put them on and go!), a cardigan (or two) for layering (offices are usually chilly), a suede and/or leather skirt and, last but not least, a pair of jeans (I recommend a dark wash) for 'Casual Friday'.

What's great about these items is that you can mix and match them.  So if you're looking to go shopping for fall clothes, I would start by looking at your closet and seeing if you need these items (or if any of them need updating).  And then you build from there.  The key is to add pieces that can work with the rest of your wardrobe, like the Aritzia (vegan) suede skirt, above.  Just swap out the sweaterdress, add one of the shirts shown above and you're good to go!  Once your basics are covered, then you can start adding in some fun items, like these pink J.Crew pants.  You also don't want to buy something that doesn't work with the rest of your wardrobe (I found that out the hard way).

You can shop the items by clicking on the images below!

the sweaterdress

{Free People Love Fool Swit Dress (also love this, this and this one); sneakers: Converse;
hat: Urban Outfitters; sunglasses: Prada}

I instantly fell in love with this sweaterdress because 1) I am obsessed with sweaterdresses.  In fact, I refuse to separate the words "sweater" and "dress" because it is in fact one item (spellcheck tells me I'm wrong), but nevertheless it is the best of both worlds - a piece you throw on and go and keeps you cozy warm; 2) black and white is always chic; and 3) I love that it can be worn casually but would also look great with some boots.  As happy as I was getting a cool enough day to wear this dress (the day before the historic rain began), I am happy to have sunshine again.

Thinking of those affected by the floods in SC.

falling for . . . free people

It was raining most of the day so I thought I would put together a post of the pieces I've been eyeing for fall from Free People.  Nothing speaks fall to me more than Free People (see hereherehere, here and here of some of my favourite FP pieces/looks from last year).  My fall must-haves this year include a (new) denim shirt, a striped tee, a plaid shirt, cozy sweaters, a pair of flared jeans, sweater dresses and a denim jacket to top it all off.  What pieces or trends are you most excited for?

winter story

{Free People Shake It Pullover Dress (sold out, obsessing over this lace one);
Free People Winter Story Sweater Legging; hat: Guess; sunglasses: Prada;
Marc by Marc Jacobs Snow Booties (leathertall versions); bag: Louis Vuitton (old)}

I'm stocking up on sweater leggings since it's starting to get really, really cold (below 0).  I love these ones from Free People.  (I wanted the grey pair and now they're back in stock, yay!)  It was definitely fitting that I wore them yesterday since it was freezing and, sure enough, started to snow.  These Marc by Marc Jacobs snow booties are perfect for running errands, they're super comfy and keep your feet warm (plus, they have a hidden wedge!)  I've said it many times before that I hate the cold, but when it started to snow I did get excited because there's a good chance we will have a "white Christmas"!
