spring plaid

Unlike gingham, normally when I think of plaid, I think of fall, until I saw this gorgeous LoveShackFancy plaid midi dress.  The colours are so pretty and definitely scream a spring picnic!  I love the puff sleeves, which are pretty subtle (a lot of puff sleeved pieces I've been buying are quite dramatic).  I also love the ruffles that run down the dress.  Of course, I paired the pink and blue plaid dress with my pink Lack of Color hat.  (Although I recently ordered this Lack of Color straw hat, which would go perfectly with this dress!)  This pretty plaid print is also available in a mini dress, a crop top, and a maxi skirt.

Since I purchased this plaid dress, I've been seeing plaid (and, of course, gingham) everywhere.  I've been eyeing this Free People Amelie Plaid Minidress.  Below are other plaid and gingham pieces I'm loving for spring:

plaid for the holidays

AGOLDE Sophie High Rise Crop Jeans (similar here and here)
Dolce Vita Boots (similar here)

Happy first day of December!  This is my favourite time of the year.  I love the holidays.  I love decorating for Christmas.  I hate cold weather but I loved seeing snow on Christmas morning growing up in Canada, although it seemed rare.  I never get sick of the decorations so I start decorating early.  We have a fake tree so that helps.  Now that we live in the States, our decorating starts the day after Thanksgiving.  The cozy sweaters come out, but so does the plaid.  I love to wear plaid for fall, but come winter, I go all out with plaid - decorating with cozy plaid throws and even use plaid wrapping paper for Christmas presents!

I've loved plaid for as long as I can remember (as seen on the blog here, here and here, for example), but I was drawn to this Free People dress because of the exaggerated sleeves!  It also just looked effortless, which I can confirm it is.  The material is so comfy.  It's oversized, which I like because you can move around in it.  I kept it casual with a pair of Vans.  It also looks great with a belt if you want to dress it up a bit more.  Just add a pair of boots!  It originally only came in two colours so I chose the navy since I chose the top in the 'blush combo'.  Then Free People added two additional colours in the dress!  I'm bummed I missed out on my size in the 'wild raspberry combo'.  This dress is that comfy that I would have ordered another one.

This Free People top is the same material, but only comes in the original two colours.  It's so comfy.  I paired it with skinny jeans and a pair of Dolce Vita ankle boots.  This top is now on sale!  Throw on a cozy cardigan for extra warmth.

 Some other plaid items I'm coveting:

I'm obsessing over this Free People maxi skirt, which unfortunately would be too long on me

clueless

cuff: Chanel (vintage); sunglasses: Prada}

Anytime I see a plaid skirt or dress, I immediately think of one of my favourite movies of all time: Clueless.  'As if.'  'Whatever.'  'You're a virgin who can't drive.'  I could watch that movie over and over again and never get sick of it.  That's when I fell in love with Paul Rudd.  He's now one of my favourite actors.  More importantly, that's when I became obsessed with fashion and dreamed of having a closet like Cher's - one where a computer picks out your outfits for you.  I actually bought this plaid Topshop dress awhile ago (see here), but this time decided to play up the schoolgirl look by adding a blouse underneath and a blazer.  Tights are a must because it's almost below 0.  It was actually impossible to take pictures because it was freezing, raining and super windy this weekend.  Hence taking them on my front porch.

I have 'Rollin' with the Homies' stuck in my head.  Now I have to watch that movie this weekend.  Can't Hardly Wait is another favourite.  Great, now I want to watch that movie too.  Guess I know what my weekend is going to consist of.

mad for plaid: transitioning into fall

{dress: Topshop; sweater: Zoe Karssen (sold out); sunglasses: Prada;
boots: Topshop (suede version here); bracelet: BCBG}

I have always loved plaid (I have some pieces in my closet I will probably love forever and always get excited to wear when fall comes around).  As always, Marc Jacobs and I are on the same page.  Obsessed with this Marc by Marc Jacobs dress, top and cardigan.  Problem is...I can't have it all.  Sigh.  Why does he have to make everything so perfect?!  I'm also obsessing over all of the tulip print pieces.  So I have to choose carefully.  Anyway, this Topshop dress is so cute and perfect for summer, but it will also transition into fall nicely with booties and a sweater (or currently when the weather drops extremely at night).  I'll also be able to wear it to work with a blouse underneath and a pair of tights. I love when a piece is so versatile.  Especially for the price!
