Even though we don't get fall weather usually until the end of October, fall is my favourite season to shop for so I love browsing my favourite sites (Revolve, Shopbop, Free People, Anthropologie, Nordstrom) and saving my favourite pieces in my 'shopping cart'.   Florals, animal prints, jewel tones, plaid and purple are some of the trends this season.  On their own, they're pretty much classic prints and colours for fall (except maybe purple), but I'm loving how they're being mixed together: florals are being mixed with animal print (see ASTR the Label Surplice Smocked Top and RIXO Kelly Skirt, above) and animal prints are being mixed with plaid AND florals (see Free People Fields of Plaid Buttondown, above).  My favourite piece I've come across so far is the NSF plaid skirt mixed with denim.  I'm a sucker for anything plaid.  Mixed with denim?  Sold.  Trend or not, I think everyone should own something plaid.  Even a simple pair of plaid pants like the ones above from ZARA - it beats wearing plain black to work every day.

I've worn plaid quite a bit on the blog: a perfect plaid shirt by Free People as seen on the blog here, mixed with more plaid here, mixed with stripes here and mixed with a floral blouse (back in 2013!) here.  I love mixing prints.  It's fun to experiment.  I'm sure I've said this on the blog before, but the easiest way to mix prints is to stick within the same colour family.  Or if you're not sure about mixing prints, try wearing a leopard print shoe (or boot) with a floral top and keep your bottoms neutral, or pair a plaid headband with a floral print skirt.  Or if you're still not sure, let the pros do it for you and purchase a piece that does the mixing for you!

leopard print

Free People Wildcat Top (similar here);

I love a good leopard print.  I've worn the trendy print many times on the blog.  (I say trendy, but it's a classic in my opinion, but it seems to be around more so this season.)  I wore a leopard print coat on the blog here, a skirt (it's actually cheetah, but basically looks the same) here with OTK boots and here paired with yellow, a leopard print cardigan here, a snow leopard print skirt here styled for work, a leopard print toque here paired with denim on denim and, lastly, a leopard print bag here.  So when I saw this One Teaspoon leopard print skirt, I could not resist.  It's SO comfy.  It was a bit breezy out so I paired it with a long-sleeve (but breezy) Free People top.

Some more leopard print pieces I love below:

animal print

{Free People Skirt (love this one by Mango - save 20% today! - and this Joie silk skirt is 55% off);
Madewell Tee;
525 America Cardigan (love this one);
Stuart Weitzman The Lowland Boot (budget-friendly OTK boots here);

Another one of the 'challenges' from Who What Wear's 30-Day Winter Wardrobe Challenge was to wear your favourite leopard-print piece.  I wanted to pull out this leopard-print faux fur jacket I bought last year since I have yet to wear it this winter, but it's been too warm.  Then I remembered about this Free People leopard-print skirt (which is one skirt I will probably hold on to for life, even though I've been selling practically everything from my closet over the past several months).  But then today I remembered it was cheetah print.  Po-tay-toe/po-tah-toe.  I paired the leopard, er, cheetah-print skirt with a simple black tee, boyfriend cardigan and over-the-knee boots.

A leopard, or cheetah, print is classic and never a bad investment.  Free People always has great animal-print pieces.  I love this leopard-print buttondown blouse (under $100!) and this leopard-print pullover.  I love this Urban Outfitters leopard-print sweater tee (tip: layer over a white buttondown to make it work appropriate).  Love this Maje leopard-print jacket and this Equipment silk bomber jacket for Spring.  This Equipment leopard-print dress is beautiful.  Animal print and sequins?  Yes, please!  Love these Marc Jacobs Lisa Mary Jane Ballerina Flats.  Leopard print and crystal-studded floral appliqués?  Yes and yes!  These Steve Madden Inca Sandals are gorgeous and perfect to transition into spring with a pair of jeans.  I've been looking for a pair of mules and I'm loving these Pour La Victoire Leopard Febe Slides.  A touch of animal-print goes a long way on these Dolce Vita Pedra Sandals.

leopard print faux fur jacket of my dreams

Hope everyone had a great weekend!  It was somewhat warm, but I was still able to wear my new jacket.  I have been looking for this jacket my whole life.  I've always wanted a leopard print jacket but every one I kept coming across just didn't seem right (the colours were off, it wasn't my style, etc...).  (I saw one on the Free People site but it was sold out in my size and I couldn't find it anywhere.  I was super bummed.)  Then I came across this one and I immediately knew it was the one for me (and then I stalked it until it went on sale since I'm not supposed to be spending money for the next couple of months).  I love the shape of it and the colours are spot on (literally).  It's not too heavy, which is perfect for living in the South.  I immediately thought of pairing it with all black, even though it's not something I wear often.  It would also look great with a pair of distressed boyfriend jeans and a white tee which is what I'll be pairing it with next.

denim on denim

{shirt: Madewell (similar, love this dotted one); GAP 1969 Legging Jeans
hat: Guess (old, love this one from Nasty Gal); sunglasses: Prada}

Just a quick post of what I posted on Instagram of what I'm wearing today - a simple denim on denim look.  This is my favourite chambray shirt from Madewell because of the two tones (the sleeves and the pocket are slightly darker).  And these GAP jeans are definitely my new favourite jeans.  They fit great and feel amazing.  This Guess hat that I bought a year or two ago is reversible (the other side is plain black) but I chose the leopard print side for a little pop.  Plus, I'm not sure if there is a better combination than denim + leopard print.  They're two "trends" that never go out of style.

white denim

{sweater: Wilfred; jeans: GAP; jacket: J Brand; bracelet: BCBG;
sunglasses (old), cross-body bag (Saks, sold out online, but love this one): Marc by Marc Jacobs}

I'm not opposed to wearing white after Labour Day, but white denim screams spring/summer to me.  I'm officially transitioning my wardrobe into spring and if I was wearing blue or black bottoms, this outfit would be pretty dark and that's not how I want to start the season.  Even though the weather is really ticking me off.  Today it was raining... then warm and sunny... then cool... and then windy and flat out friggin' freezing.  I'm fine with it being a little cool, but I find our weather goes from cold to hot (see weather yesterday) and I don't get to wear all the cute little spring jackets in my closet.  I have to get in the habit of wearing scarves, but to me they scream winter and it's very confusing to me to wear a scarf with a spring jacket.

(Btw, I've always been a 7 FAM jeans kinda gal, but I'm really, really loving GAP's skinny jeans.)
